Carisbrooke Blog - 31 January 2025

What a whirlwind of a week it has been — especially with the unpredictable weather! A huge thank you to our students and staff for their patience as we adapted social time locations. I also want to commend our students for their exceptional conduct during this week’s unprecedented lockdown - they handled it brilliantly.
It’s been a jam-packed week of incredible trips, workshops, and sporting events!
Science came to life as students took part in fascinating DNA workshops run by the University of Southampton. You can read all about their hands-on experience here.
Our Mandarin students had an unforgettable trip to BFI Southbank in London, where they gained valuable insights into film and culture. A huge thank you to Mr Briscoe for making this happen! Read more about the trip here.
Meanwhile, Year 10 students were treated to an inspiring performance of An Inspector Calls at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Thank you Mrs Smith, for organising this brilliant experience.
These experiences highlight the importance of learning beyond the classroom. At Carisbrooke, we believe that education is about more than just academics —it is about creating unforgettable moments, sparking new passions and broadening horizons. A massive thank you to the staff who work tirelessly to bring these opportunities to life!
Next Wednesday, GCSE Music students will attend a session on An Audience with… Pathways into the Music Industry, while Year 9 students will take part in an exciting Music Careers and Live Performance event led by Platform 1.
Year 11 students - keep up the great work! Our Additional Sessions are running during tutor time, lunch, and after school. Not only do these sessions boost your learning, but every attendance earns Prom points, so keep going!
Year 9 students will receive their Teenage Booster vaccination next Tuesday (if consent has been given). Parents/carers, please check your emails for details on how to complete the consent form. Without it, your child will not receive the vaccine.
Year 9 Parents’ Evening is coming up on Thursday 13 February. Book your appointments via the Arbor App to meet with your child’s subject teachers and discuss their progress. If you need assistance, please contact donna.keogh@carisbrooke.iow.sch.uk.
As a reminder, it is Mufti Day next Friday 7 February in aid of Arlo. Students can wear what makes them happy but, please remember, their attire should be appropriate for school and if they have PE on their timetable, they must bring their kit and get changed as usual.
School will be closed on Monday 10 February for a Staff Development Day. Please make a note of this in your calendars!
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend.
