Head of School's Blog - 18 October 2024
This week I have had the pleasure of attending the celebration assemblies for all year groups. I am amazed by the amount of Head Teacher Awards, Tutor Awards, 100% attendance Awards and Achievement Awards that were given out. This is a testament to the amazing work that the students and staff are doing in Carisbrooke College and I was extremely proud.
The second half of the Year 7 cohort attended a trip today to the Roman Villa in Newport. Just like the students last week, they said it was interesting and that they enjoyed learning about history outside of the classroom. Thank you to Mrs Randall for organising this and the staff that supervised the event.
Yesterday a group of Year 9 and Year 10 students went on a trip to the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton to see a production of War Horse. The students were blown away by the performance and the staff on the trip commented on how excellent the students were on the day. Thank you to Mrs Smith for organising yet another successful theatre trip and to the staff that went along to support.
A group of six students from year 8 attended the Faraday Challenge at Christ the King College yesterday. They were narrowly beaten into second place. They all came back buzzing - we are super proud of them. Thank you to Mr Roux for making this happen for them.
Congratulations to our Year 7 student, Faye, on receiving the Players’ Player of the Year Award for Arreton U11 cricket team. You can read all about it here. We always enjoy hearing about students' achievements outside of school so that we can congratulate them and celebrate their success. Please share details of any successes your child may have with their Head of Year. If you are happy for us to share their good news publicly, please let us know that we have your permission to do so
Our canteen had an unannounced Food Hygiene Inspection this week and we’re so proud to say that they received 5 stars. Congratulations to our lovely kitchen staff!
This week we had a ‘lockdown’ practice. This is where an alarm goes off in school warning of a lockdown and all students must be locked in their classrooms, blinds down, lights off and stay away from windows and doors. We understand that these drills can be a little upsetting for some students and whilst we hope that we never have to do this in a real life situation, we must have the drills on a regular basis to ensure that students, and staff, are fully aware of the procedures to keep themselves safe.
Recently we have seen attendance levels drop for our students which is a cause for concern. We would like to thank those students who have attendance above 95% and encourage them to keep up the good work but for those students below 95%, please can we ask that parents/carers support us in improving their child’s attendance level. We will work with, and support parents/carers and students to help resolve any problems which may be impacting on your child’s attendance. If you have any concerns, please contact the Head of Year who will be able to discuss this with you and offer support.
We will be running some revision sessions for Year 11 students over the holidays and they can be found here in the letter that has been sent to Year 11 parents. Please encourage your child to attend these sessions where possible as this will be invaluable support in assisting your child in their GCSE exams.
Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners last week, Scarlett in Year 7, Emilia Year 8, Elana Year 9, Liam Year 10 and Liam Year 11.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a very pleasant half term and I look forward to seeing all of our students return to school on Monday 4 November in full uniform and ready to learn.
