Head of School's Blog - 4 October 2024

We opened our doors to Year 6 students and their parents/carers on Tuesday evening. We welcomed over 350 families into the school. We had so many student volunteers helping and they are our best ambassadors. The evening was a great success. I was super proud of Ethan and Kate who spoke to the audience about their transition to Carisbrooke. They were amazing and spoke so confidently. Well done to them! Thank you to all the staff and students involved in arranging, supporting and taking part in this very busy evening.

An email was sent out to all parents/carers regarding flu vaccinations in school on 7 November. This vaccination is a nasal spray and your child will only receive this if you use the link in the email to give your consent. If you have any problems doing so, please contact reception.

To celebrate how well our Year 7 students have settled into Carisbrooke College, we will be holding an after school disco on Thursday 17 October. Letters went home with students today.

Year 7 have done some reading tests weeks. Feedback from staff on their engagement and behaviour has been excellent. Over the next two weeks, Year 7 students will be sitting CATs (Cognitive Abilities Tests). No revision or prior learning is required. This involves three tests over the three days. Results from the tests help us to understand learning styles and highlight potential difficulties that students may be facing.

Student school photos for Years 7, 9 and 11 can be ordered for delivery into school until 15 October. If you would like to place an order, you will require a code that your child was given when having their photo taken. If you do not have a copy of this code, please contact reception who will be happy to assist you.

Pencil cases were given out to all students on Monday. As a reminder, here is a link to all the equipment that students should have with them in school every day. If for any reason you are having any problems with obtaining the equipment, please contact your child’s Head of Year.

An email was sent out this week regarding joining our Academy Committee - a board that will operate in a local governance function for our school. As a parent governor on the committee, you will work with school staff, other parents and members of the community to ensure our students receive the best possible education. To find out more or to express your interest, please email Donna.Keogh@carisbrooke.iow.sch.uk by the end of the day on Wednesday 9 October 2024.

Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners last week, Jack in Year 7, Sebastian Year 8, Jackson Year 9, Holly Year 10 and Louis Year 11.

Have a lovely weekend.
