Head of School's Blog - 20 September 2024

I can’t believe that we are already three weeks into the new term. We have had a very positive start to the academic year and students have returned with a positive attitude. Our new Year 7 cohort have started well and are already getting involved in Carisbrooke life. It was lovely to see so many parents attend the Year 7 Tutor Evening - where there is a good relationship with parents/carers there is a really positive impact on attainment and student well-being.

On Wednesday, a group of four Year 7 students were lucky enough to have their names picked out of hat to take part in the ‘4P’s Radio Programme’ at Vectis Radio in Newport. This course offers students the opportunity to learn all about radio presentation in the studio of Vectis Radio. Students learn the basics of: Presentation, Promotion, Production and Podcasting! They will also be live on radio during some of the session each week if you’d like to tune in on Wednesday mornings. Considering this was their first session, the students were amazing - confident and eager to learn.

On Monday, students in Years 7, 9 and 11 had their school photos taken. An email will be sent out to parents with information on how these can be purchased, later next week.

Our extra curricular clubs are in full swing. A full list of them can be found on our website here: School Clubs. Please encourage your child to take part in as many activities as they can.

Our target this year is to have attendance greater than 95% - there is a definite correlation between attendance and outcomes. Attendance less than 95% can make a whole grade difference by the time a student leaves at the end of Year 11. Every day you miss is a day you cannot get back.   Please remember that taking your child out of school will not only impact on their education but you may incur a fine from the Local Authority. More information can be found here: Family Holidays and School Holidays.

Our Year 11 football team made a fantastic start to the Hampshire cup with a great victory in the first round! We look forward to their results in the next round. The full write up is available here: Year 11 Hampshire Cup Match.

Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners last week, Jacob Year 7, Ezri Year 8, Jackson Year 9, Billy Year 10 and Amy Year 11.

Finally, a reminder that school will be closed to students on Tuesday 24 September for a Staff Development day.

Have a lovely weekend.
