Head of School’s Blog – 12 July 2024

Welcome to this week’s blog.

On Tuesday, our new Year 7 students joined us for Transition Day. It was lovely to meet them and introduce them to life as a Carisbrooke student. Thank you to all our student ambassadors involved, you were an absolute credit. In the evening we held our transition evening for parents and carers. It was very well attended and gave the students and parents the opportunity to put names to faces of the key staff that they will be working with at Carisbrooke. There were some delicious tasters from Chartwells who showcased their lovely food. Thank you to all of the staff involved.

On Thursday, a group of Year 8 and 9 students attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It was a very successful trip and the students found it very interesting and exciting. The students were all exceptionally well behaved.

Next week, we continue with our Year 10 trial exams. So far the students have behaved impeccably. On Wednesday, it is Year 9 who get to experience exam conditions for their core subjects of maths, English and science. Some students may feel a little anxious with regards to exams; please reassure them that if they have any worries, they can speak to their Head of Year or their Tutors – we are all here to support them throughout the process.

On Tuesday, our Year 10 students are out on work experience for three days. We hope they find this exercise useful and it gives them an insight into their future plans post-16. We hope to update you with some interesting stories about this next week.

We are very excited to be holding our Year 11 Prom on Thursday 18 July at Newclose Cricket Ground. This is a great way to celebrate the students’ end of time at Carisbrooke College and I am looking forward to seeing them all dressed in their finery.

We have only two weeks left until the end of term. Our expectations of students remain the same – arrive at school on time, in full uniform and with equipment ready. Attendance, as always, is vitally important for your child’s education and we are grateful for your continued support with this.

To confirm, the end of term is 3.15 pm on 26 July and we have set the dates for the start of the new term in September. Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 September are development days, students are not required to attend school. Wednesday 4 September we welcome our new Year 7 students and Year 11 and Thursday 5 September all year groups will be in school.

Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners last week, Michael Year 7, Reuben Year 8, Liam Year 9 and Oakleigh Year 10. Keep up the good work!

I hope you have a lovely weekend.
