Macbeth at Shakespeare's Globe

On Tuesday 11 March, a group of Year 9 and 10 students travelled by coach to London to watch a thought provoking version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Before the 7.00 pm performance in Shakespeare’s iconic theatre, the students had the opportunity to visit Tate Modern and explore an exhibition by Mire Lee entitled Open Wound which drew inspiration from The building's history as a factory. Lee reimagined the space as a living factory using a mix of silicon and chains to challenge our ideas of what is beautiful, perverse, provocative and desirable.
The group then walked down the River Thames to Shakespeare’s Globe which was rebuilt in 1997 to the same specifications as The Bard’s original theatre. The Globe is the perfect place to watch on of his most famous plays and the students were able to gain a full Shakespearean experience as Groundlings standing in The Pit to watch; an invaluable opportunity for the GCSE English Literature students.
Well done to our resilient students for getting up and coming into school after the late journey home!
As always, the students were a credit to our school community and behaved impeccably whilst on the trip. Thanks to both staff and students for a great experience.
