Year 7 Support The Salvation Army Christmas Hampers
Over the last few weeks, Year 7 students have been collecting food items to donate to The Salvation Army's Christmas appeal. This has been part of Year 7's work to support our local community.
On Monday 9 December, eight students from Year 7, accompanied by Miss Dewey and Mrs Lythgoe, went down to The Salvation Army to help assemble a number of Christmas hampers for those on the Island that are less fortunate. Students were given the task of carefully packing individual hampers.
Students had to carefully follow an organised system, selecting the correct quantity of goods to ensure each household on the list would have enough items in their hamper to cater for all. These goods were then lovingly wrapped and decorated. By the end of the three hour session, the students helped cater for over 200 individuals. The opportunity allowed our students to talk openly with Salvation Army volunteers, learning more about what the charity does whilst also gaining an understanding into how much goes on behind the scenes to help those that are in need. The students were exceptional throughout the whole experience.
Rosie from the Salvation Army e-mailed us and said:
"I just wanted to say what a wonderful group of students you brought along today. They all worked so hard, showed great enthusiasm and manners were spot on! They had some wonderful conversations with the volunteers about the difference their work and collection of donations would make and this was lovely to hear.
I want to pass on our thanks again for the wonderful donations they all came armed with. When I say they will make a difference, they really will. Many of the families we support really do have nothing, so they will be so thrilled to receive these beautifully created treat hampers.
Please pass our thanks on to the students and we look forward to working with Carisbrooke College again"
